The Over-The-Hillsborough Gang Ride Dave's (and Kent's) Birthday Ride.
Hillsborough, NC
The date was to be on the morning of Saturday, the 6th of September.
However, you can see from the picture below that Sunday, the 7th, had to be the better day.
The hurricane offshore was sending too much rain. So much that the Eno River almost crested.

So Dave worked on Saturday and we would ride the better day, Sunday.
Today, Saturday, we would eat a great breakfast with espresso at the Weaver St. Market.

We accidentally met another cyclist, Ken, at breakfast.

This also led to a great lunch at Tupelo's right downtown Hillsborough.

The last picture is Dave and his wonderful sweetheart.

The Over The Hillsborough Gang
(The guy on the left looks really young for an old guy.)

When Ken comes around you, you had better get on that wheel quickly or you may never see him again.

He is so big and fast that I'm hidden completely.
Once when he came by I sat up behind him and just waved back at the other guys.

Ken pulls up to me as he's passing and says "Nice day isn't it?"

He's really saying that he's going to drop me like a rock but he's going to make it look easy.

Michael Throop always "does his homework" and gets better every year.

These guys are always a fun group.

I've known Dave for 30 years and Sidney for more than 20.

Somewhere out here I made a mistake by waving a vehicle. Slow reactions by the driver made it impractical.

I should not have waved this guy around I suppose. I want to be friendly with motorists.
I'll try to do better.
Riding habits, courtesies, etiquette.

Bill

I love old barns.

Old tobacco barns.

Our first stop. It's a great stop.

"See Ya Later Alligator" was booming in the very pretty store.

There are several of these 640 pixel pictures that I saved through some web magic.

I accidentally left my camera set on "video".

This is a face of character. He hadn't cut his hair since he got out of the service in 72.

His mother tried for years to get him to cut his hair but he wouldn't.

Finally one day he made a mistake that got worse while he was doing a little trimming.

He shaved his entire head. Her visited his mother. She didn't notice. She said nothing.

A week or so went by and he visited his mother again. His mother exclaimed "You've cut your hair!"

It was actually Kent's birthday.

Home again home again, joggity jog.

It was another great Hillsborough Birthday Bash.
What a feast afterwards.
